Black History Month - Mental Health Challenges and Global Wellness Issues among Black People

The month of February is Black History Month. Black History Month is a celebration of all Black people who have impacted the world with their activism and achievements. In the US, the month-long spotlight during February is an opportunity for people to engage with Black histories, go beyond discussions of racism and slavery, and highlight Black leaders and their accomplishments. Today, Black History Month is celebrated around the globe.

The theme for this year’s Black History Month Celebrations is “Black Health and Wellness” and Webster University Ghana Campus is excited to invite your students, staff, and faculty to join an intimate discussion on our campus themed “Mental Health Challenges and Global Wellness Issues among Black People” on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 4:00 pm GMT.

We will be looking at this topic from the perspective of Black/African men. Men generally are raised not to feel most emotions simply because they are men. Men face anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma etc. just like everyone else. This discussion seeks to teach our younger generation how to deal with some of these challenges and heal from them ultimately. We are honored to have one of our International Faculty from the US campus who is also a licensed and certified counselor on the panel.

We have made provision for guests who are unable to join us physically, to join the discussion via zoom.
