Start Your Own Business

By Webster Leiden Media Club

The Business Department at Leiden Campus had a unique opportunity to host its annual event: Start Your Own Business, in other words SYOB. Charlene Lambert, a professor at Webster Leiden, and Gold Lawal, a Business Department Assistant at Webster Leiden, organized the event and made it possible for students to learn more about the essentials of entrepreneurship in the Netherlands.

Joined by Webster Leiden students and members of Women’s Business Initiative International (WBII), the participants had a chance to exchange knowledge on different business opportunities and discuss ways on how to start business in the Netherlands. Multiple members of WBII including Nira Saguru, Sinead Hewson, Caroline Orthlieb as well as a special guest speaker Alexandra Arschanskaya had a chance to speak about their experience on business in the Netherlands and share their advice with Webster Leiden students.

The event covered multiple topics such as the basics of entrepreneurship, process of starting one’s business in the Netherlands, tax information, as well as personal experience that guest speakers faced on their journey.

Although SYOB was hosted online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was a success as it is relevant to Webster Leiden students, especially those who want to continue their professional career in the Netherlands and start their own business.
